Often, when we feel stress at work, it has a lot to do with our time management ability or lack thereof to manage our time properly. Everyone has certain tasks which must be done each day, while other tasks wind up being plopped on our desks to be done “right away”. When you know how to manage your time and set goals for yourself, you will find that you not only can ease your stress, but efficiently and effectively do everything you need to do.

Do The Every Day Tasks First

If you have things that must be done every single day and need to be completed by a certain time, it’s a good idea to get them out of the way first. If you are one of the people who gets to work first, you may want to knock out tasks such as going through messages, sifting through orders, getting the mail ready to go and preparing packages first thing in the morning. Other things that may need to be done first thing in the morning include checking paper stock and reviewing your tasks for the day.

Some people choose to get to work early each day in an effort to get these tasks done first so they don’t have to worry about them. Once you get in the habit of completing all of the “every day” tasks first, you’ll find that the whole rest of the day goes much more smoothly.

After you’ve completed your daily tasks, another good time management tip which will help you to avoid feeling stressed is to check your inboxes. Both the one at your desk and the one in your email should be reviewed because this will help you to place priorities as to what should be done right away. It’s not always necessary to make sure to have everything done by the time you leave work, but you want to know that all the priorities are being met.

Consider putting the most important tasks at the top of your inbox and going through it that way. Once you’ve completed one thing, you can move on to the next. This will help you to feel as if you’re in control of your day, managing your time well and eliminate stress.

Each Week Have Everything Done By Your Friday

If you are a Monday to Friday worker, or if you have a certain block of days off each week, you should try to have everything completed by the time you go on your weekend. This part of time management will help you to eliminate stress because you can feel confident in the knowledge that you don’t have anything pressing waiting for you. You’ll be better able to relax and enjoy your weekend and not worry that you didn’t get something done.

Do your filing, or little tasks, when you find that you have a bit of downtime from the rush of work each day. When you have good time management skills, you will find that you can get these things done easily and effectively because you have finished your work for the day. For instance, if you make sure that all of your work is done about a half hour before the end of your day, you’ll feel stress free and find that you have time for all of the smaller tasks such as filing that might need to be done.

Good time management skills are essential in any type of work because it will help you to reduce the amount of stress you feel throughout your day and allow you to be efficient and productive in the work place.

When you work on stress management for self improvement, you will likely find that there is a lot to do in order to become more efficient and effective in all your daily activities. Think about it, when we feel stressed, we are unable to focus on the tasks at hand and can begin to feel as if everything we do isn’t quite up to par. This includes everything from making your family dinner, to household chores, to tasks at work. If you’re stressed, your mind and body can tend to lag behind and leave you feeling unfocused and confused.

Why Work To Manage Stress

When you can manage your stress, you will be able to effectively balance your life because you know the tasks that are laid before you. To a person who suffers from constant stress, each situation is just another mountain to climb. This can leave you feeling as if you’ll never get everything done, so you wind up doing only half of what you need to do. When you are able to manage your stress and let it go when you’ve completed each task, you will find that you are more likely to get things done throughout your day and enjoy your down time more.

Have you ever wondered how successful people can embark on so many things and still manage a family life? Some of them can’t of course, but others do quite well and part of this is because they have learned stress management techniques that help them to balance their lives.

One of the best stress management techniques which you need to learn for your self-improvement is to leave your stress behind. In other words, if you are struggling with a stressful project at work that’s fine, but when you leave work or the project is complete, you need to take that stress and get rid of it. Some people choose to work out, others choose to breathe deep and some just close their eyes and let it go. You need to do the same.

Recognize that your stressors will go away once you take care of them and leave it there if you’re not able to handle everything in one day. It will still be there tomorrow or the next day, so prioritize them and check them off your list one by one. When you know what your are up against, it can make every challenge seem small.

Find Ways to Decompress

Even though we choose to leave our stress behind, it’s still likely that you will need to learn how to relax. Think about how good you feel when you return to work after a fun weekend. This is the way you want to feel every single day and you can. When you are using stress management for self-improvement, you will want to find the one thing that will help you to leg go of stress and anxiety so that you can get the rest you need to take on each new day.

Work out, spend time with friends and family, take a bath or meditate. Do what you need to do to reduce your stress levels and become more relaxed. You’ll sleep better, feel better and be more able to face your stressors head on.

Learning effective stress management tools will help you on your path to self improvement. When you’re stress free you’ll find that you function well in every aspect of your life not matter what the challenge you face is.

Self esteem is a common issue that everyone has to deal with. Some people have a very positive outlook about themselves and others don’t. Since the issue of poor self esteem is so common, there are plenty of activities out there that people can take part in. They can be implemented in the classroom, at home under the direction of parents, in a counseling session, and even on your own if you want to improve your self image.

Some of these various activities can be done in a group setting. This can be really fun but the rule is that only positive things can be said. People are often surprised about the various attributes that others find in them. Pass around a sheet of paper with each person’s name on one. Once everybody has written something it should go back to the person that has their name on it. Many facilitators review them first though to make sure no harmful information is written on the papers.

Individuals that view themselves too harshly can spend some time writing about themselves each day. They should have to commit to writing positive things about themselves for at least ten minutes a day. This should focus on their qualities as well as the goals they want to accomplish for themselves in the area of self esteem. This is a type of behavioral transformation that will take time to complete.

Make sure that the self esteem activities are appropriate for the age of the person or the people involved. It can take some encouragement for people to be honest about how they really feel about themselves. Even if they aren’t able to say it out loud they can put it on paper. Have them do so early in the activities. After a period of time has gone by have them review it again. Hopefully their self esteem prospective will have changed for the better over that span of time.

The internet is a great place to find different types of self esteem activities. Many of them work well for a variety of people. If you make the activities fun people will be more willing to try them. If you are dealing with youths though you should look for those where they don’t have to share their information with others. This way they will be more honest about their feelings towards themselves.

1. Inspiration

Inspiration is critical to staying motivated and improving yourself. If you are not interested in your business, your motivation level will never be high and you will not be able to sustain interest for very long.

Take an honest look at your inspiration level. Are you excited about going to work or is it an obligation? You would be surprised at the number of people who choose a business that looks good on paper, but in reality does not interest them in the least.

These individuals will grow weary and uninterested pretty quickly because they have no inspiration or passion to sustain them during the difficult times they will encounter as a small business owner.

If you do not like your work, then think how you can re-focus your small business to better match your needs. Or consider making a change entirely. Without inspiration, there will not be motivated to even try self improvement.

2. Setting Goals

Short and long-term goal setting is vital for any business owner. If you do not set goals, you would have no definite purpose on which path of self improvement to take.

How could you possibly be motivated if you were unsure about the direction of your company?

Take the time to put your goals in writing. A business plan may sound daunting, but it is really nothing more than goals, strategies, implementation and a budget. Write your own business plan and update it at least annually.

Include “mini-goals” that can be accomplished in a matter of hours, days or weeks as well as the more ambitious “grand-goals” that may take years to complete. Refer to this plan throughout the year.

But can a business plan really help motivate you? Of course. Written goals will make you feel more professional and certainly more connected to your business. It will also free you from having to reinvent your business goals every single day.

3. Networking

Another key factor in getting and staying motivated is networking with other small business owners. No one person knows all the knowledge.

However, when a number of people begin working together, the challenges will just be there waiting to be conquered.

In fact, the isolation of working alone is of one the most difficult parts of being an entrepreneur. You can never be on your way to self improvement without the help of others. Mutual support is motivating.
Make it easier on yourself by connecting with others either in your community or online. Even when businesses are not related, you will often find common ground and ways to work together.

Many successful entrepreneurs report that finding the right networking group was a turning point in the growth of the business. Working together, a networking group can help its members generate more qualified sales leads and solve problems faster and more efficiently.

Sharing ideas, expertise and experience is also an invaluable aspect of motivation and self improvement.
Your own personal team of business owners will help re-energize you when the burdens of running your own business seem too much.

With your networking team to rely on, you can accomplish more in less time and probably have more fun in the process. You will feel motivated to accomplish self improvement when you know you are not alone.

Proper time management is something that we will all need to pay close attention to because it will help us get rid of time killers and put us on the road to using time more productively as well as efficiently. The first step in proper time management is to study the way that you spend time and then note down your habits as well as situations that cause you to waste time.

There are certainly a number of common problems that proper time management can help solve including the biggest time killer of them all – phone calls. The telephone is among the most abused instruments in modern day life and now that mobile phones are a reality you can well imagine how much time gets wasted in talking aimlessly on phones.

The second time killer that requires your close attention is when appliances, gadgets and machines start to malfunction. This is an area that must be addressed and by using proper time management you should be able to kill this ‘time killer’ – an example of how machines kill time is the dreaded photocopier, when it is not working – that takes a long time to produce the first copy or a drawer that gets stuck. In such instances, proper time management is required and the offending time killer must be dealt with without any delay.

People that talk endlessly are another form of time killers and of course it does not take much sense to figure out a proper time management technique with which to eliminate this form of time wasting. Obviously, you should avoid such people as much as is possible because they lose all sense of time and thus will waste precious time in discussing trivial matters.

Another time killer is the ubiquitous traffic jams that are known to affect every large city. The amount of time that gets wasted being stuck in traffic jams is simply mind boggling and the simplest time management technique that can help avert such time wastage is starting off an hour earlier to the office so that you reach your office before the traffic begins to jam up.

Other forms of time killers for which suitable time management solutions need to be found include long meetings and endless queues. If you spend some time in devising solutions to these common time killers, you will find plenty of time to do the things that need to be done and thus you will become more productive and efficient.

For more information on time management visit our ‘Time Management‘ guide.

There are no hard and fast rules about what tools you must own, if you are going to embark on a mission to improve your time management skills. The following simple tools, however, are inexpensive, and can help make the process of tracking, planning and organizing your time easier and less burdensome.

Time Monitor Journal

This resource comes in both the digital and traditional varieties. It is useful in helping you to monitor and record your own use of time, in order to identify key areas for change. While a special journal is not needed, you may find that a ready made one saves you time in the long run, by doing the majority of the work for you prior to the actual recording of your activities.

Time Management Planner

Available in digital and traditional formats, planners are wonderful for recording goals, making notes, keeping track of appointments and more. A planner is a must have to help you stay organized and on target, when working toward your goals. Select a planner that allows you enough room to keep track of a number of appointments and daily goals, but that is small enough so that you are able to carry it with you at all times.

Every parent wants their son or daughter to have great self esteem. Studies show that self esteem is defined in two different ways. For adults, this is the way one perceives oneself to others. For teens, it is the other way around and the only way to fit in, is to be cool.

Why the difference? Adults have spent enough time already in the world to know the difference between things that are important to those that are trivial. Teenagers are just learning the ropes.

So, how do you build up self esteem in a teen? Since these people are in the age of discovery, the best thing parents can do is be open in answering questions about certain issues and being supportive in the decisions that the individual teenager makes.

Parents also build self esteem by disciplining the teenager should something wrong be done. Explaining why is it wrong is much better than yelling because this will enable the individual to understand and hopefully avoid from making the same mistake again.

Another part of building self esteem on the part of the parents is being able to give comfort when things don’t work out. Teenagers will feel heartbroken if they have a relationship break up and the only thing the parents can do is say everything will turn out fine and someone better will come along in the future.

Self esteem doesn’t only come from the parents. Friends on the other hand are like parents who may offer words of comfort if the son or daughter is too ashamed or shy to talk about things happening in life.

Building self esteem helps the teenager evolve. This allows the person to either change or remain where they are. This happens after they realizes their strengths and weaknesses and they will focus on things that are easy while at the same time learning a few tricks to improve on their weaknesses.

Hope is a feeling towards happiness of a particular outcome. It can be something very minor such as hoping it doesn’t rain or that tickets to the movie they want to see isn’t sold out. Other forms of hope are more serious in nature. For example you may be hoping that your dog makes it out of surgery without any complications so they can make a full recovery.

The hope that we have is something based on our personal beliefs. It is often tied into our own faith and religion as well. For example many people have family member’s fighting wars. They hope and they pray each day for that person to return safely. They hold on to their faith as it is a way to get though difficult situations.

The benefit of having hope and a positive outlook for a situation is very important. Many people will tell you they just had a feeling that everything was going to work out alright. There has been plenty of research to indicate individuals who have hope recover from cancer and other types of illnesses faster and more often than those that don’t.

Some people keep their feelings of hope to themselves and they do engage in prayer. Some religions openly tell their congregation to engage in hope for themselves, those they know, and the world as a whole. Others give very emotional and motivational appeals about how to reach for hope and what it can offer you.

There are some great books out there that offer great information on how you can become more hopeful. Sometimes life throws us for a loop and we aren’t sure what to make of it. We can change our outlook though by finding things to hope for and to motivate us to keep striving for better things ahead.

Hope can provide a person with the strength they need to handle any situation regardless of what is taking place. Many professionals feel that hope is nothing more than a coping mechanism. Yet for many individuals it is a feeling that is much stronger and much deeper than that. What is agreed upon though is the hope a person has and the depth of it varies by individual.

The world is full of many different types of people. Some like to complain and stir up issues. Yet others will always search for solutions and hold out that better things are to come. These individuals are full of optimism and they can sometimes annoy those that like to wallow in self pity. Yet if you can try to think positive then you can learn to appreciate the things in life you already have. Too many people are always reaching for more when so much is right there in front of them.

It goes back to that timeless question of is the glass half empty or half full. Those that see it as half full are very optimistic. They will take what is there and make it as fulfilling as they possibly can. This is why they can be poor or they aren’t the most educated but they are happy people. They are able to count the blessing in their life and not take them for granted.

Being optimistic is a state of mind that a person chooses to have. You can decide if you are going to look for the good or focus on the negative. The reality of it is that you will find exactly what you are looking for. By this I mean if you are looking for how bad your life is you will find plenty of examples. Yet if you want to look for all of the good and the opportunities that you have you will also find them.

It is important to surround yourself with people in life that are positive. Those with a negative outlook can poison everyone so you need to be careful though. Challenge those you know who are continually unhappy to enjoy the good things that they have to cherish. You can also challenge them by asking them what they want to do to change the situation instead of simply complaining about it.

One of the greatest gifts you can give to a child is optimism. They will learn from example if you show it to them. They will have to learn that life is full of ups and downs but they can always find something to bring them joy. This outlook is going to help them to live a very full and happy life.
